Notes From CDMX
Our favorite takeaways from Mexico City...
Mexico City has been high on our family travel list for many years. It gets such rave reviews for a reason. We had it planned and had to cancel for various scheduling reasons. Most recently, Annie had to cancel a spring break trip with friends when there was a cartel dust-up. I swooped in (such a good mom :) and offered to take her on a mother-daughter getaway post-graduation but pre-real-world job. To be fair, we are a little like book reviewers who just love every book, so the reviews are not that useful. We really love cities for the reasons that some people really don’t- the noise, the smells, the energy, the diversity, the creativity, and the never-ending hidden gems. Mexico City did not disappoint. It is green and lush in a way that almost feels tropical and was unexpected to me. Annie did a lot of research and led us to everything from Michelin-starred tacos to pilates in Spanish (comical, as I speak almost no Spanish, but did understand uno rojo and dos azules), and a blazer atelier of your dreams. Here were some of our faves…
The Alex Mill Perfect Tote has become a favorite travel bag and gift in our house. I wish I had saved a million patches so that mine would look like Annie’s, but I love it nonetheless.
HOTEL:

We LOVED, LOVED, LOVED our hotel, Casa Polanco. I can’t say it better than they did: “In Mexico, we say ‘Ésta es tu casa’ when welcoming guests into our homes: Make yourself at home. Casa Polanco greets you as a sophisticated friend welcoming loved ones. Situated in a restored Neocolonial mansion from the 1940s, Casa Polanco offers a contemporary extension with 19 individually designed rooms and suites and beautiful social areas.” The service was exceptional.

The breakfast was some of the best food we ate, which is saying a lot. The library and room were stocked with drinks and snacks at no charge (yes, I understand you still ultimately pay, but it does feel like being in someone’s well-stocked home). Most of the restaurants we chose were in the Roma Norte neighborhood, and traffic is no joke (makes LA look like a breeze), so there is an argument to stay closer to the area you will spend the most time, but I am so sold on the hotel that I think I would brave the long walk/very slow Uber again. We did check out the Four Seasons in Roma Norte as we had been told to stay there. It is a BEAUTIFUL hotel, but a lobby full of guys in lanyards is my sign that it isn’t my hotel. The Brick was recommended to us too late to make a change, but it also looks amazing.
